Former Wimbledon champion Boris Becker has been declared bankrupt over long-standing debt by a British court. Arbuthnot Latham & Co, a private banking firm has filed a bankruptcy application against Becker in connection with a judgement debt owed them by the tennis star way back in 2015.
Becker's lawyers have requested the bankruptcy court to adjourn the case for 28 days. They even explained that adjourning the case would have enabled the former tennis ace to raise a six million euro, by remortgaging a property in Spain. Once the mortgage property is signed, Becker could have started repaying his UK bank debts.
However, not agreeing to Becker’s lawyers, Arbuthnot Latham & Co. said that the case has already been put off post initial hearing dated April 28. The firm claimed that there was no evidence to prove that the six million euro package would help him repay his debt.
