India’s ace shuttler Lakshya Sen crashed out in the opening round of the Thailand Open, while the women’s duo Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand advanced to the second round of the Super 500 tournament here on Wednesday.
Sen fell to Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen in a tense three-game battle, losing 18-21, 21-9, 17-21.

After dropping the first game, the Indian found his rhythm in the second, dominating with aggressive rallies. However, Nguyen held his nerve in the decider, edging ahead at 17-13 before sealing the win.
Meanwhile, the World No.10 ranked women’s duo of Jolly and Gopichand made a positive start to their campaign, progressing with a 21-15, 21-13 win over the Malaysian pair of Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting.
