Only sportspersons of the highest calibre enter a tournament believing they can break a World Record. Two-time Para World Cup gold medallist Mona Agarwal is one such athlete. Yet, when the display board at the Aichi Prefectural Shooting Range flashed ‘World Record’, ‘Asian Record’ and ‘Games Record’ after her 50m rifle 3-position SH1 event at the Asian Para Games recently, she was stunned.

That’s because she had expected to break a record in the 10m air rifle SH1 event, her strongest discipline, rather than in an event in which she had competed just four times previously on the global stage.
