World No. 2 Elena Rybakina and former champion Coco Gauff breezed into the second round on Tuesday.
Rybakina, eyeing a third Grand Slam title and the World No. 1 ranking, beat US teen Thea Frodin 6-3, 6-2. “I’m happy with the match. Especially when you don’t know your opponent, it can always be dangerous, but overall I’m happy with the first match and how it went,” said World No. 2 Rybakina. She and fourth-ranked Gauff are two of the three players, along with No. 3 Jessica Pegula, who can challenge Aryna Sabalenka for top honours.
