Pic/AFP</span></p></td></tr></tbody></table>United States skipper Corey Pavin said his team face an uphill struggle to retain the Ryder Cup after watching Europe surge into a three-point lead here yesterday.<br /><br />But the combative American captain vowed that his players would come out fighting in Monday's singles finale at Celtic Manor and were still capable of turning the contest around.<br /><br />Europe need only five points from the 12 up for grabs in the singles to win back the famous trophy they lost at Valhalla two years ago.<br /><br />"Is it an uphill battle? Yes, of course, because we have to win more points than they do in the <br />singles," said Pavin.
