Viswanathan Anand is gearing up for the World Championship re-match against Norwegian Magnus Carlsen in Sochi in Russia this November. Having played against the youngster for several years, he picked the 2007 clash as most memorable. "That remains one of the most memorable wins for me."
Positive feeling Having lost the World Championship match to his younger opponent in his hometown Chennai last year, he admitted feeling better after defeating him in the rapid format at Dubai this June. "I left Dubai with a very positive feeling. Last year, there were a lot of negative emotions floating around.
This year, I think it will be the other way," said Anand on the sidelines of an event in the city on Saturday when he was named brand ambassador of the World Junior Chess Championship (October 5-20 in Pune).
Talking about his preparations for the re-match, he said, "I have made a lot of changes in how I work. You feel the tension more and more as the tournament approaches.
I have already had my first camp and am looking forward to the second. After that, I will play rapid chess in Bilbao, Spain (at the European Club Cup in September). In October, I will play in Geneva (rapid format) and then the Corsica Masters in Europe."
With the FIDE elections scheduled for Monday where Russian Gary Kasparov is pitted against countryman Kirsan Ilyumzhinov for the president's post, there is uncertainty looming over the schedule of the match.
Staying out of the mess Also, the re-match didn't receive any bids to host the event, but Anand seemed positive. "I'd like to stay out completely of the elections. Unfortunately, elections are where we wash our dirty linen. It is just how our system works.
Right now, there is a firm sponsor and the match is taking place in Sochi. Personally, I am waiting for the suspense to be over as I will receive the exact schedule and other details for the rematch," said the 44-year-old legend, who won the World Junior title in 1987.
