Pune: The PRA Independence Million, traditionally known as the graveyard of favourites, will be run as the feature race of a nine-race card slated at the Pune racetrack for Sunday. Of the 15 runners that have accepted Flood Of Fortune, Satsuma Star, Sacred Relic, Vincero and Wilna have better credentials than the rest.
I was particularly impressed by Wilna's sustained run during her last outing on this track when she finished runner up to Tequila (who later won in higher class albeit faced disqualification). Based on that observation, I feel the Imtiaz Sait-trained filly to be ridden by C Rajendra will be concerned at the judge's end, and accordingly, is tipped to win the main event.
As best bet of the afternoon, I suggest giving a thought to Cabriolet (Highland Rule Trophy) who finally finds himself among second-rung horses after unsuccessfully matching strides with Classic horses for a long time.
Another good bet on the Sunday card that could bring decent profit home is Emerald Valley in the Scarlet Emperor Plate. The danger she might face may come from first-timers Scarlette and Glamorous, but his educative outing on this track exactly one month ago should help him contain any threat.
