Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic defeated British wildcard Dan Evans in the second round at Wimbledon 2025 as he inched closer to a record 25th Grand Slam title. On the other hand, world number one Jannik Sinner entered round three.

However, home favourite Jack Draper suffered a heartbreak as he crashed out to former finalist Marin Cilic.

Djokovic avoided joining the host of big names eliminated in the first week in south London, as the Serb needed just one hour and 47 minutes to defeat Evans and claim a 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 victory on Centre Court.

After securing his 99th victory at Wimbledon, the Serbian said, "It means I've been playing quite a long time!".

The 38-year-old stated that he is aiming to script history by winning 25 Grand Slam titles, which will help him become the most successful singles player in tennis history.

"I still enjoy it. This court has given me so much. Wimbledon has a special place in my heart. Any history made here is obviously extra special," he said.

Currently, he is tied with Margaret Court, who also has 24 Grand Slams to her name. Djokovic expressed confidence in scripting history by saying that he is thinking about the big things he can do in the ongoing tournament.

"I'm aware of the history on the line. I'm thinking about the big things I can do in this tournament," said the Serbian-born.

On the other hand, Jannik Sinner is yet to come victorious at Wimbledon. The Italian defeated Australia's Aleksandar Vukic 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 to storm into round three. The 23-year-old will now clash against Spain's Pedro Martinez.

"We saw there have been so many upsets this tournament so we try to stay focused and raise our level," said Sinner. Draper's dream of following in the footsteps of Andy Murray as a British champion was dashed as 36-year-old Marin Cilic rolled back the years.

The Croatian, who is making his first Wimbledon appearance for four years after major knee surgery, blasted 53 winners in a 6-4, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 victory. "The emotions I'm feeling are incredible," said Cilic.
