Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) star Tamika Catchings did not let her hearing impediment come in the way of her success. Overcoming her disability, she went on to win the Olympic gold thrice besides being a WNBA All-Star and five-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year.

"As I was born with a hearing and speech problem, I had to wear hearing aids and was always teased about it. So, sport became very important to me. In fact, I feel that the hearing disability was a blessing in disguise for me as I could concentrate more on playing and not be bothered about what people had to say about me," said the Indiana Fever forward, who was always keen to emulate her father Harvey, who played in the NBA for over a decade (1974-85).
