Meanwhile, Preethi Pal and Pardeep Kumar won the bronze medals in the 200m and discus throw categories, respectively.

Overall, it was a productive day for India as the athletes managed to add four medals to the tally. With this, India has now jumped to the fourth spot from the seventh place.

Currently, India's medal tally consists of six gold, five silver, and four bronze medals. Two more days are left for the conclusion of the marquee event, and the Indian athletes have the best chance to better their previous medal tally of 17 medals in Kobe 2024, which was held in Japan.

As of now, in the World Para Athletics Championships, Brazil enjoys the top spot with 12 gold, 18 silver, and seven bronze medals. China comes next with nine gold, 16 silver, 13 bronze, followed by Poland at 8(G), 2 (S), 5 (B).

Delhi-born athlete Simran managed to win the first gold for India on Friday. With a personal best record of 11.95 seconds, she won the women's 100m T12 final.

In the previous edition in Japan, she won the gold medal in the 200m event and in the 2024 Paralympics. Simran will also participate in the 200m in the ongoing event.

Liang Yanfen of China won the silver with a time of 12.11 seconds, while Spain's Nagore Folgado Garcia took the silver, clocking 12.11 seconds.

The T12 category is meant for athletes who have visual impairment, and Simran ran with her guide, Umar Saifi. Born prematurely at six-and-a-half months with visual impairment, the 25-year-old Simran trains at the JLN Stadium.

For Nishad, it was a double delight as he won the men's high jump T47 event on his 26th birthday. He cleared 2.14m to win the gold with an Asian record.

It was also his maiden gold in either Paralympics or world para championships.

He won a silver each in the Tokyo and Paris Paralympics, a bronze in the 2019 world championships, and a silver in the 2023 edition.
