Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko rallied to reach the WTA Canadian Open final, beating ninth-seeded Elena Rybakina 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4) on Wednesday.
Mboko had saved a match point in the third set and broke her Ukrainian opponent twice to force the tie-breaker. “It was a really difficult but incredible match. Thanks to everyone for supporting me,” an ecstatic Mboko said. She’ll face Japanese star Naomi Osaka, who beat 16th-Clara Tauson of Denmark 6-2, 7-6 (7), in the final.
Meanwhile, Karen Khachanov rallied from 3-1 down in the final set tiebreaker to defeat top seed Alexander Zverev 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7/4) on Wednesday to reach the final of the ATP Toronto Masters. He will battle USA’s Ben Shelton for the title.
