Dehydrated fastest bird in the world rescued from Mumbai’s Mulund, rewilded after treatment

A severely dehydrated Shaheen Falcon, a subspecies of the Peregrine Falcon, considered one of the fastest birds in the world, was rescued from Mulund on Tuesday by the Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW).

The bird was found in a residential area on the periphery of Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), under the jurisdiction of the Mumbai Range of the Thane Territorial Wing of the Forest Department.

Immediate first aid saves raptor

Officials said the falcon was initially found unconscious. It was immediately given first aid by the RAWW team, after which it regained consciousness and became active and alert.

Swift medical care and recovery

A team of veterinarians from RAWW examined and observed the raptor for a few hours. Following assessment, it was declared fit for release back into the wild.

Rewilding conducted with forest department coordination

The bird was successfully released into its natural habitat in coordination with the Forest Department and RAWW, marking a swift rescue and rewilding operation aided by timely intervention and scientific handling.
