The Raigad district administration has declared a holiday for all anganwadis, primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in seven talukas on Thursday, following an India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of the district.
According to an order issued by the Raigad District Collector and the district disaster management authority on Wednesday, all educational institutions in Alibag, Panvel, Uran, Shrivardhan, Tala, Poladpur, and Mhasla will remain closed on Thursday as a precautionary measure.
The decision has been taken in view of the IMD's weather forecast issued on Wednesday, which predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall at several places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Raigad until July 7.
The order stated that the tehsildars concerned from Alibag, Panvel, Uran, Shrivardhan, Tala, Poladpur, and Mhasla had requested the closure of schools after considering the prevailing weather conditions and the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall.
District Collector Kishan Jawale, who is also the chairperson of the district disaster management authority, approved the closure under the powers vested in the authority under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and relevant education department guidelines.
The order applies to all anganwadis, primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools in the seven talukas.
However, the administration clarified that headmasters, teachers, and non-teaching staff must remain present at their respective institutions and continue to perform disaster management-related duties as directed by the local administration.
The district administration has urged students and parents to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, and follow monsoon safety advisories issued by the authorities.
The Palghar district administration has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges on Thursday in view of a red alert issued by the IMD for heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places.
The order was issued by District Collector Dr Indu Rani Jakhad, who is also the chairperson of Palghar's District Disaster Management Authority.
According to the official order issued on Wednesday, the decision was taken after reviewing the forecast and the prevailing weather conditions in the district. All types of educational institutions - including anganwadis, government and private primary and secondary schools, zilla parishad schools, municipal schools, aided and unaided schools, ashram schools, colleges, and vocational training centres - will remain closed on Thursday.
However, all principals, teachers, and non-teaching staff have been instructed to report to duty during regular working hours and assist the local administration in disaster management activities as per requirements.
The order has been issued under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and relevant government resolutions empowering the district collector to declare school holidays in emergency situations.
This precautionary measure aims to ensure the safety of students and staff amid the expected intense monsoon activity.
