Delhi car blast: PM Modi takes stock of situation, speaks to Home Minister Amit Shah

Following the Delhi car blast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took stock of the situation in the wake of the explosion in the national capital.

"PM Modi spoke to Union HM Amit Shah and took an update on the situation," sources told the ANI.

"Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the blast in Delhi earlier this evening. May the injured recover at the earliest. Those affected are being assisted by authorities. Reviewed the situation with Home Minister Amit Shah and other officials," PM Modi wrote on X.

Shah has directed chiefs of NIA, NSG, forensic sciences to rush teams to assist in probe into blast near Red Fort, collect evidence, they said.

At least eight people were killed and over a dozen others were injured in a powerful explosion in a car near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, setting multiple vehicles ablaze and shattering window panes in the vicinity, officials said.

Fifteen people have been brought to Lok Nayak Hospital. Eight of them died before reaching the hospital. Three are seriously injured. One is in stable condition: Medical Superintendent, Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital told the ANI.

The Delhi Police sounded a high alert across the city following the incident.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha on Monday said that several people have died and some have been injured after a car explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station in central Delhi.

According to Golcha, the blast took place at around 6.52 pm when a slow-moving vehicle stopped at a red light. "An explosion happened in that vehicle, and due to the blast, nearby vehicles were also damaged," he said.

Teams from all major agencies, including the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), have reached the site to investigate the cause of the explosion.

"The situation is being closely monitored. The Home Minister has also been informed and is being updated regularly," Golcha added.

Police have cordoned off the area, and rescue operations are underway.

Following the incident, Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh has been put on alert in the wake of the explosion, officials said.
