RBI begins MPC meeting on October 5; analysts expect rate hike for first time since 2023

The policy decision is due on October 7, and analysts expect the apex bank to increase its key lending rate or the repo rate for the first time since February 2023

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) began its three-day Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting on Monday amid growing expectations of an interest rate hike amid rising inflation, elevated crude oil prices and a softer rupee, reported news agency IANS. 

Market expects rate hike for the first time since February 2023

The RBI has kept the repo rate unchanged for four consecutive policy meetings at 5.25 per cent, since December 2025.
