Ali Fazal has been donning numerous hats, from acting to producing films that have been making a mark at international film festivals. In an exclusive chat on mid-day’s podcast series The Bombay Film Story, the actor takes pride in sharing how the juggle has been a boon and a bane to him. Fazal detailed how he wishes to spend more time with his daughter and not be away from the family for long durations. Due to which he has also been in a dilemma on choosing films between Bollywood and Hollywood.

Ali's dilemma between fatherhood and work

Ali shares his dilemma of being with his daughter and work, "I lose out a lot, and I am constantly in fights. I piss off a lot of people, and it's a time thing. I don't think I am able to figure it out and hack it. Now, I have a good reason to stay back home. I have my family happening, my child, and I am terrified sometimes. One day, I'll have to go for even a month is really hard. Even while I was shooting in Delhi seemed difficult for me as I wanted to go back and see my daughter. With the International work, I have been pressured 5-6 times to change location. I don't want to, I want to make stories here. We can make stories here and take them there for international content."

On losing out on films due to the juggle

Ali revealed he lost many films in Bollywood as producers thought he didn't live in India anymore, "Here I have lost out more, up until last year, people thought I didn't stay here. Producers would say that I lived outside, so they weren't sure whether I would work with them. I was chasing Homi Adjania for two years, and I was going to work with him, but that ship sank. Then there was a project with Rajkumar Hirani, and I couldn't do it. There are many such projects that I lost here."

Recalls how he did Khamoshiyan over Homeland, "That was way back, I don't know what was in my mind. But Khamoshiyan's songs were all hits. So in a show like Homeland, they ask you for your dates and availability to shoot. I must have said no to it."
