Deepika Padukone has been in the news for several reasons. Last month, it was announced that she is no longer a part of the Kalki 2898 AD sequel. While the actress recently called out gender bias in the industry in reaction to her removal from the film, reports are rife that the makers have already found a replacement. As per reports, after embracing motherhood, Deepika had put strict working conditions in her contract, stating she would only shoot for eight hours a day. This led to her ouster from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, which starred Prabhas. Last month, Vyjayanthi Movies confirmed the news of Deepika’s exit from the Kalki sequel.

The statement read, “This is to officially announce that Deepika Padukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of Kalki 2898 AD. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like Kalki 2898 AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best with her future projects."

In an interview with CNBC 18, Deepika reacted when she was told she was facing a lot of pushback for her decision. She said, "By virtue of being a woman, if that's coming across as being pushy or whatever, then so be it. But it is no secret that a lot of superstars, male superstars, in the Indian film industry, have been working for eight hours for years, and it's never made headlines."

Deepika Padukone’s upcoming movies

On the work front, the actress will mark her sixth collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan in Siddharth Anand’s King. She confirmed the news by sharing a post and praising King Khan. She has even started shooting for her portions in Poland. Apart from this, she is also a part of Allu Arjun and Atlee’s AA22xA6. She has allotted 100 days for the film’s shoot and will soon join the actor for filming.
