Costume designer Anaita Shroff Adajania, who has styled Jr NTR in War 2, on how his look had to project masculinity and strength

If the 2019 instalment is anything to go by, War is as much about style as it is about espionage. For War 2, the stakes are only higher, as the upcoming release marks the Hindi film debut of Jr NTR, who plays the villain to Hrithik Roshan’s R&AW agent Kabir Dhaliwal. Anaita Shroff Adajania, who has styled the Telugu superstar in the actioner, says she wanted his look to reflect his character’s machismo. She explains, “I wanted to ground him, keep it real, but still retain that undeniable strength and masculinity he carries so effortlessly. There is a rawness to his presence, like a human machine operating with purpose. That translated into a wardrobe built on power and simplicity: leather, rugged jackets, and strong silhouettes.”

The recently released teaser of War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, hints at the battle of wits that plays out between Roshan and Jr NTR’s characters. Shroff says that while designing Jr NTR’s look, she also had to be mindful of it being distinct from the leading man’s suave style. Dressing him in hues of black, brown, and burgundy, Shroff adds, “With his look, there is no fuss, no excess, just a man who means business. His styling reflects that. It is direct, impactful, and no-nonsense.”
