Shraddha Kapoor has reportedly started shooting for Eetha, a biopic directed by Laxman Utekar on legendary Marathi folk artist Vithabai Narayangaonkar. We have learnt that filming began on November 1. The title, derived from a regional pronunciation of “Vitha”, reflects the affection with which the performer was known in rural Maharashtra. mid-day had earlier reported how the film will explore Vithabai’s remarkable journey as a pioneering Lavani and Tamasha artiste who earned two President’s Awards for her contribution to Indian folk culture (Marathi mulgi in action, September 14).

Veteran actor Paresh Rawal has shared candid views on the credibility of film awards, admitting that even prestigious honours aren’t entirely free from lobbying. Speaking with entrepreneur Raj Shamani, Rawal said, “There may be a bit of lobbying even in the National Awards, though not as much as in others. Still, a National Award is reputed.” He added that the Oscars too face similar influence, noting that members are often persuaded through networking. Rawal clarified that true recognition for him comes not from trophies but from creative peers. “When my director or writer says they’re happy with my work, that’s my award. Their appreciation is enough,” he said.

A recent social media video, which claimed that Mumbai’s iconic Prithvi Theatre in Juhu was shutting down, sparked panic. However, the venue was merely closed for its annual renovation ahead of the 47th edition of the Prithvi Theatre Festival, which began on November 1, and will go on till November 17. Actor and trustee Zahan Kapoor said that he found the public’s reaction amusing, explaining that the theatre shuts for maintenance every October. He added that this year’s dramatic online post was meant playfully, but it also revealed how deeply people value the space.
