Ahead of Producers Guild hosting the Indian National Cine Academy Awards, founder shares how honouring artistes and movies across 12 regional industries is a big undertaking

Last December, mid-day reported that the Producers Guild of India was set to launch the Indian National Cine Academy (INCA) Awards to honour movies and artistes across the country’s diverse film industries (When talent is the only language, Dec 20). The event, earlier scheduled for March 8, will now take place on April 15 in Mumbai.
Creating India’s first award system that honours 12 regional industries has been a mammoth undertaking, said INCA founder Vishnu Vardhan Induri. He noted, “At National Film Awards, you don’t get to see the film fraternity coming together under one roof. This is an event where we want all 12 industries to feel that they are a part of the same industry. The Indian film industry is never called so; instead, they are referred to as the South, Hindi, Gujarati film industries. The intention is to make it a unified [entity].”

Nominations have been entered, and the process of selecting winners is underway. Induri broke down the process, saying, “Filmmakers have to submit their nominations. After that, a jury consisting of members across the industries will shortlist the nominations. From the shortlist, industry bodies will vote for the [winners].”
