There is no stopping for Full Plate, as the film is charging from one global festival to another. After the glorious world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival, actor Kirti Kulhari-starrer Full Plate- directed by Tannishtha Chatterjee- will be the opening feature of the Indian Film Festival of Sydney on October 9. Full Plate is billed as a moving, intimate exploration of food, faith, and everyday resilience. In the film, which debuted with massive acclaim last month at Busan, Kulhari plays a homemaker-turned-cook battling customs, patriarchy, and stereotypes with her food.

As a multi-faceted performer who has championed meaningful cinema and brought to life memorable female characters on screen, Kulhari will also be seen in a special ‘Women in Film’ panel discussion at the festival.

“I fall short of words to describe just how thrilled I am that our labour of love will be at the Indian Film Festival of Sydney. There will be a lot of Indians at this festival, and it will be great to watch their reactions to the film. It will truly be a moment of pride as our film gets big and bigger, reaching so many people. We had a fantastic start with the world premiere at Busan and now with this, my plate sure does seem pretty full. I have never been to Australia before, so I am really looking forward to the whole experience there,” Kulhari shares.

For Kulhari, saying yes to the movie was a no-brainer the minute she knew that Chatterjee would be at the helm. “I’m so fond of Tannishtha. I’ve not seen her first directorial venture [Roam Rome Mein] but I believe in her sensibility. When we met to discuss her film, just knowing that it was going to be written and directed by her told me that it would be done right. That made me say yes immediately, even before she finished talking about it,” she recalled, before adding, “That Tannishtha could envision me as a cook working in people’s homes made me so happy. She believed in me, I believed in her and in myself — so Full Plate is a mix of a lot of beliefs coming together.”
