Kritika Kamra on how working with a female-dominated crew for Peepli Live maker Anusha Rizvi’s next enhanced the storytelling
Kritika Kamra and Anusha Rizvi
For Kritika Kamra, the past two months have been empowering exactly in the way she had imagined. The actor recently wrapped up the shoot of the yet-untitled situational comedy, helmed by Anusha Rizvi of Peepli Live (2010) fame. What made it stand out from the numerous sets that Kamra has been on was that it was largely populated by women, not only in front of the camera, but also behind it.
Kamra, who is joined by actors Shreya Dhanwanthary and Juhi Babbar, among others, shares that more than half the crew was female. “It’s special to find yourself on a set where women aren’t just in front of the camera, but are leading from every corner — direction, production, costumes, and more. Working with Anusha Rizvi was a gift. With this film, she brings a strong vision and a truly open space for collaboration,” says the actor.
The comedy, set in Delhi, is a hilarious look at how an incident changes the dynamics between 10 women. With Rizvi telling a story of women, the decision to bring in a female-dominated crew was essential, notes Kamra. “It wasn’t about ticking boxes. It changed the work, made it better. It’s a collective experience reflected on screen. There is a different kind of energy when such powerful women come together. It was nurturing, inspiring, and enriching. We weren’t just telling a story; we were sharing lived experiences and supporting each other.”
