In a way, storytelling started her career. Kusha Kapila’s hilarious reels and sketches were wildly popular, and soon the content creator was Bollywood-bound, featuring in Ghost Stories (2020), Masaba Masaba 2 (2022), and Thank You for Coming (2023). Now, the content creator and actor is embracing storytelling again, but in a new role. Kapila has turned producer with her next, a short film titled Vyarth that sees her in the lead role.
Pankaj Dayani has directed and co-produced the short film that tells the story of Bhumi, an underrated actor tired of being typecast. While Bhumi’s aspirations are seemingly crushed on being offered the role of a mother, things take a turn when her younger flatmate seeks her help for the same audition.
As she makes her production debut, Kapila already knows what she enjoys most about her new role — that it enables her to back worthwhile stories. “[Vyarth] is close to my heart because it allowed me to explore a story that I truly believe in. We’ve poured our hearts into creating something that we hope will resonate deeply with everyone who watches it,” she shares.
Vyarth is expected to stream on YouTube later this month. Dayani says that he found a dream collaborator in Kapila on his maiden directorial venture. “As an actor, Kusha was focused and dedicated. She spent time with the script and got into the skin of the character, which made it easy to direct her. Her joining the project gave it a big boost as she brought in the right energy with her. Both as an actor and a producer, she was always willing to give her 100 per cent,” he states.
