Amid multiple reports and rumours surrounding the casting of Madhubala's biopic, casting director Mukesh Chhabra has now broken his silence, refuting all rumours. He also confirmed that the casting process has not started yet

The biopic on one of the most iconic and beloved actresses of Indian cinema, Madhubala, has often been in the headlines. Over the years, the names of several A-listers have been suggested and reported for the film’s lead casting. Several names have surfaced on social media, claiming they had been cast as the lead in the biopic.
Mukesh Chhabra reacts to Madhubala biopic casting reports
Settling the dust, now casting director Mukesh Chhabra has reacted to the speculations about the casting of the anticipated biopic.
Taking to his X account on Wednesday, March 18, Mukesh Chhabra broke his silence on the ongoing reports. He wrote, “Oh wow, so Madhubala casting is already locked? Amazing. Meanwhile, I keep reading a new ‘final’ name every day… so I guess I must be casting for the wrong Madhubala biopic—because we haven’t even started yet. MadhubalaBiopic."
Madhubala biopic casting rumours
For the unversed, it was earlier reported by Filmfare that Saiyaara star Aneet Padda has already been signed for Madhubala’s biopic. However, the same report also stated that a YRF spokesperson had denied the claims.
The same publication had also reported that Sai Pallavi, who is set to make her Bollywood debut with Junaid Khan in Ek Din, was in the race to bag the iconic role of Madhubala in her upcoming biopic. Reports claimed that Sai Pallavi was one of producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s choices for the movie.
Meanwhile, Sai Pallavi is gearing up for her debut Hindi film, Ek Din, opposite Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan. The film is expected to hit theatres on May 1. Apart from this, Sai is also working on Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana Part 1 and 2 with Ranbir Kapoor, Sunny Deol, and Yash, where she will be seen playing the role of Sita, with Ranbir, Sunny, and Yash playing Lord Rama, Hanuman, and Ravana, respectively. Part 1 of the mythological saga will hit theatres on Diwali 2026, while the second part is planned for 2027.
Similarly, reports of Kiara Advani being shortlisted for the role of Madhubala in her biopic had also emerged. Darlings director Jasmeet K. Reen had announced that he will be directing Madhubala’s biopic.
