Ahead of Madhavan, actors like Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt were also asked for their views on the matter. However, they refused to comment on it. Shilpa Shetty too gave a simple reaction to the controversy by simply stating she is aware of the language. For the unversed, the language debate began when the Maharashtra government asked government primary schools to start teaching Hindi as a third language, along with Marathi and English. The situation became more tense when videos started spreading on social media, showing MNS party members allegedly targeting people who don’t speak Marathi.
