Salman Khan, Sohail Khan and Ranbir Kapoor
Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra's Ramayana, headlined by Ranbir Kapoor, has been making waves for a long time, and the anticipation continues about the film, which will be released in two parts. Based on the mythological story of Ramayana, the first part will release on Diwali 2026. While the casting of Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role had already garnered some conversations earlier, now a new report claims that Salman Khan was expected to play Lord Rama before Ranbir Kapoor, but lost the role because of his brother, Sohail Khan. But there's a catch.
Salman Khan to play Ram in Ramayana?
Reports claim that before Ranbir Kapoor, Salman Khan was supposed to play the role of Ram. However, due to Sohail's alleged 'mistake', this opportunity slipped, despite considerable shooting and promotion of the film.
According to reports, Sohail Khan, who turned director with the film Auzaar, had earlier announced a film based on the Ramayana back in the early 1990's. The preparations for the same had also begun in full swing. Salman Khan was reportedly cast as Ram, while his Hum Saath - Saath Hain co-star Sonali Bendre was to play Sita. It is believed that later actor and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt also joined the project.
In fact, about 40 per cent of the film had been shot as well, while Salman had even started promoting it in Ram’s look, complete with a bow and arrow. However, just then, rumours of a relationship between Sohail Khan and Pooja Bhatt started doing the rounds, which ultimately ruined the film. Unfortunately, Salman Khan's Ramayana never saw the light of day.
Sohail Khan and Pooja Bhatt
Reports suggest Sohail Khan and Pooja Bhatt grew close during the shooting of the film, while some even claim that Pooja spoke about marriage with Sohail during a 1995 interview. But when Sohail's father and legendary writer, Salim Khan, found out about their relationship, he advised his son not to pursue it further.
Salman even tried to handle the situation peacefully; however, Pooja Bhatt did not appreciate the attitude of the Khan family. It is believed that, disappointed, she eventually walked out of the film, leaving it incomplete. Hence, neither Sohail and Pooja’s relationship nor the film ever moved forward.
