Vijay Mallya is known to make headlines often. He has been a central topic of media coverage and conversation for a long time now. The businessman boasts of a flamboyant lifestyle, which has often caught attention. But more than that, it is his legal controversies that have dragged him into the spotlight. Just a day after Royal Challengers Bangalore, an IPL team he formerly owned, ended their 18-year-long drought and emerged as champions in the domestic cricket league, Mallya once again made headlines after his podcast went viral. In the 4-hour-long podcast with a famous YouTuber, he spoke about his personal life. Amid this, an old interview of actress Sameera Reddy has emerged, wherein she spoke about his special role at her wedding.

During a 2014 interview with DNA, the actress revealed that it was Vijay Mallya who performed the kanyadaan at her wedding. She said, “Only Vijay Mallya, who is related from my mother’s side, gave me away to the groom. That apart, there were only friends and family." Notably, although Sameera and Vijay do not share a direct blood relative, Mallya is connected through the actress' maternal side. Hence, he walked her down to the mandap.

Sameera Reddy's wedding with husband Akshai Varde was a low-key event, attended only by close friends and family. The couple tied the knot in 2014 after a brief period of dating.

Recalling the events where she had to ride a motorbike at the event, she said, “It was my lucky day because the owner of the company, Akshai Varde, came too. It was love at first sight for me. I was besotted, and I almost dropped the bike while riding it. He seemed to be more worried about the bike than me. Funny that he didn’t even consider dating me or look at me in that way. I had to make all the first moves and yes I asked him for his number first!"
