Less than a month after its release, Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par — a hopeful story centred on an arrogant basketball coach and 10 neurodivergent kids — appears to be scaling new heights literally. Several screenings of RS Prasanna’s directorial venture are being held at PictureTime, a 140-seater theatre that is situated at an altitude of 11,562 feet in Ladakh. On July 14, a screening was arranged for 12 differently-abled students and six teachers of a government school. This was preceded by another show on July 12 for children with autism and their parents.

Sushil Chaudhary, founder and CEO, PictureTime, said that the film’s screening is in sync with the theatre chain’s idea of taking cinema to underserved regions.  He added, “At WAVES [World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit], Aamir Khan had spoken about the emotional power of cinema and how it must be accessible to every Indian, regardless of geography or circumstance. That sentiment stayed with us. Screening Sitaare Zameen Par at the world’s highest altitude theatre, for children with autism and their parents, is a moment of quiet fulfilment for what we believe cinema can and should do.”
