Sonu Sood turns a year older today. While the actor initially rose to fame with his villainous roles on screen, he soon became a real-life hero through his efforts to help people during the COVID-19 lockdown. He turned into a messiah for those stranded in different parts of the world, with no means to return home. Over the years, he has also funded education and medical treatment for the underprivileged. Alongside his philanthropic work, Sood has continued to pursue his love for cinema.

International collaborations in Fateh

He made his directorial debut with the film Fateh, which was released in theatres earlier this year. He also served as the writer and producer, in addition to playing the lead role. To bring the film up to global standards, he brought on board Lee Whittaker, the Hollywood action director known for Jurassic Park III and Fast & Furious 5.

He also collaborated with Vincenzo Condorelli, an award-winning Italian cinematographer, to ensure top-tier visual quality. Not just that, he roped in legendary music composer Hans Zimmer for the film’s score, marking Zimmer’s Bollywood debut. Hans Zimmer is also reportedly working on Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, in collaboration with A.R. Rahman.

Sonu Sood and Jackie Chan

Sonu made his international debut alongside Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan in the Sino-Indian action-adventure film Kung Fu Yoga. He praised Jackie as “one of the most humble guys,” crediting the experience with helping him grow in stunt work and professionalism. The film also starred Disha Patani.

Xuanzang (2016–2017)

Sonu appeared in China’s official Oscar submission Xuanzang, a major Indo-Chinese co-production produced by Eros International and the China Film Corporation. He played an Indian royal and was part of a diverse ensemble cast alongside Chinese actors, gaining broader exposure on the global stage.

Thailand tourism ambassador

Sood was appointed the official brand ambassador and honorary tourism advisor for Thailand by the country's Ministry of Tourism and Sports in November 2024. In this role, he advises Thai officials on marketing and public relations efforts to attract more Indian tourists and enhance tourism relations between the two nations.

Miss World Organization

Sood collaborated with the Miss World Organization's "Beauty With a Purpose" initiative to fight breast cancer globally. He also received the Humanitarian Award at the 72nd Miss World Festival in 2025 for his COVID-19 relief efforts. This award recognizes his foundation's work in healthcare, education, and crisis relief.
