Actor/comedian Sunil Grover became wildly popular with his act as Gutthi on the television show 'Comedy Nights With Kapil'. On the show, he played several characters including Dr Mashoor Gulati, Rinku devi, and mimicking actors like Amitabh Bachchan. Post his exit from the show, he was seen in various films and shows and is now gearing up for the release of Shah Rukh Khan-starerr 'Jawan' in which he plays an important role. 


But before Comedy Nights With Kapil happened, the talented actor was seen in several popular Hindi films. On his birthday today, we look back at some of his lesser known films. 



Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha: 


Not many know but Sunil made his acting debut with this Ajay Devgn and Kajol-starrer in 1998. He made an appearance in just one scene and played the role of a Barber. 

The Legend of Bhagat Singh: 

In 2002, he once again appeared in a film headlined by Ajay Devgn. In this patriotic film, Grover played the role of Indian revolutionary Jaidev Kapoor. Kapoor worked for the Hindustan Republican Association along with Chandra Shekhar Azad and Bhagat Singh. As a teenager, he was interested to join the HRA and later, he met Azad and became a comrade of Singh.

Main Hoon Na: 

In 2004, he made  brief appearance in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Main Hoon Na'. Like Tabu, he too, was seen as one among the crowd of students in the college at which the plot develops. 

Insan: 

This is a 2005 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film directed by K. Subash. It features an ensemble cast of Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Tusshar Kapoor, Lara Dutta, Esha Deol, Laila, Koena Mitra, with Rahul Dev appearing as the main antagonist. Sunil Grover essayed the role of Mahesh, Tusshar Kapoor's character's friend. 

Ghajini: 

In Ghajini, Sunil Grover, played the role of a struggling actor Sampath. His character who was gets trained to play the role of Sanjay Singhania before Aamir Khan takes over. "Even though I had a very small role, he gave me a lot of importance. We did a lot of discussions about the scene. It was very comfortable on sets. But I didn't have much exposure at that time so I had a lot of fun playing that role," Grover had said in an interview. 


In his second innings in the movies, Sunil Grover collaborated with top stars like Akshay Kumar in 'Gabbar Is Back', Tiger Shroff's 'Baaghi', filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj's 'Pataakha', 'Bharat' with Salman Khan, Vikas Bahl's 'GoodBye'. He also appeared in web series like 'Tandav', 'Sunflower' and 'United Kacche'.
