Sean Diddy Combs
Sean 'Diddy' Combs reacted emotionally on Friday as a federal court sentenced him to 50 months in jail for prostitution-related counts.
As Judge Arun Subramanian completed pronouncing his punishment, the rap mogul appeared to mouth the words "I love you, I'm sorry" to his family.
That contrasted with his reaction three months ago, when a New York jury convicted him of sex trafficking and racketeering charges. "I'm coming home," he remarked at the time, turning to face his family, who came to court every day to support the rapper.
However, Friday's scene was different. After a day-long hearing, a stoic Combs sat powerless as the judge sentenced him to more than four years in prison, capping an eight-week trial that forever altered his public image.
Sean Diddy Combs has been sentenced to 4 years
Sean 'Diddy' Combs was sentenced to 50 months, which is 4 years in prison, after being convicted of prostitution-related charges, with the judge criticising the hip-hop mogul for years of violence against two former girlfriends.
He might be released in less than three years if he is given credit for time served in jail since his 2024 arrest.
All about the case and allegations
Combs faced a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison following his July conviction on two counts of arranging for paid male escorts to cross state borders to engage in drug-fueled sexual performances with Combs' girlfriends while he taped video and masturbated.
He was acquitted of the more serious accusation of sex trafficking, which could have resulted in life imprisonment.
The charges against Diddy resulted from accusations that he used violence and threats to intimidate two of his lovers - rhythm and blues artist Casandra Ventura and a woman known in court by the alias Jane - into participating in the concerts, also known as "Freak Offs."
The judge ruled that, despite being cleared of sex trafficking charges, Combs deserved serious punishment for assaulting his two former lovers.
"The court rejects the defence's attempt to characterise what happened here as merely intimate, consensual experiences, or just a sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll story," Subramanian told reporters. "This was subjugation, and it drove both Ms Ventura and Jane to thoughts of ending their lives."
Combs apologised to Ventura and Jane for putting them through that and claimed he had learnt his lesson.
Sean 'Diddy' Combs is one of the most well-known guys in the entertainment world to have stood trial on sex crime accusations.
