Malayalam film superstar Mammootty is back after a long medical break. His return from Chennai, where he was undergoing treatment, is being celebrated by his colleagues, fans, and well-wishers. The superstar was battling an unknown illness, and now his friend and actor V.K. Sreeraman has shared details about his health.

Mammootty had difficulty walking

Speaking to Manorama News, Sreeraman revealed that Mammootty was receiving treatment for an illness during which he lost his ability to taste and smell. He shared, “In the initial stages, when he called me, he said that food didn’t taste good and he had difficulty walking. But he didn’t talk of any of that as if it was of great importance.”

He added that they mostly spoke about things like agriculture, the state of roads in Kerala, politics, and more, rather than completely stressing on the illness that Mammootty was battling.

Sreeraman also recalled the moment he got a call from his friend sharing that he had recovered and cleared all his medical tests. “He called and said he passed the test. There was no excitement, but I know he was relieved. Although I was happy, I didn’t show it. I said I knew he could do it, and he called me a know-it-all.” According to Sreeraman, Mammootty is now waiting for the doctor’s go-ahead to get back to work, as there’s still a risk of infection.

Mammootty is back

A few days ago, Mammootty's childhood companion George took to social media to announce that the actor is well and has recovered. "I stand before you with folded hands, eyes filled with joy. To those who prayed, to those who stood by, to those who consoled me by saying that nothing would happen, to those who loved me with endless love... thank you," wrote George.

Mammootty's work front

Mammootty’s production house, Mammootty Kampany, shared a new poster of the actor’s upcoming film Kalamkaval on Sunday. The film is directed by Jithin K. Jose. The makers have not yet revealed the release date. The poster features Mammootty sitting on a chair with a menacing expression, framed against the backdrop of a giant web.

Taking to Instagram, Mammootty Kampany shared the poster with the caption: “What lies beneath is deadlier than you think. Kalamkaval On The Way.”

As per the poster, the film is expected to feature Mammootty in a powerful anti-hero role, while Vinayakan also plays a pivotal character. The screenplay has been penned by Jishnu Sreekumar along with Jithin.

The movie will mark the seventh production venture under the Mammootty Kampany banner. Kalamkaval also marks Jithin K. Jose’s directorial debut. He is best known as the writer of the Dulquer Salmaan-starrer Kurup, which emerged as a major box office success in 2021.
