Actor Daisy Shah recently opened up about a frightening fire incident that occurred near her residence, triggered by firecrackers burst during an election campaign. In an exclusive conversation with midday, the actor detailed how what began as routine political campaigning quickly turned into a dangerous situation.
“So basically, because of the election right now, everybody is running campaigns,” Daisy shared. “And the campaigning was not the problem. The campaigners started bursting crackers right outside, next to the gate of the building. These were not floor crackers. Those were sky shots.”
Daisy Shah reacts to the fire incident
According to the actor, one of the sparks from the sky shots travelled into a neighbouring apartment, causing a fire. “The sky shot spark apparently went into my neighbour’s house, and that’s how it caught fire,” she said, calling the incident extremely alarming.
Thankfully, there were no human casualties. “Luckily, there were no human casualties. I’ll put it that way, but my neighbour had pets, their cats escaped, however their fishes and birds couldn't survive the fire.” Daisy confirmed, adding that the situation could have been far worse. Her own house is located dangerously close to where the fire broke out. “My house is 20 feet away from where the fire is. Yes, my house could have been the next target.”
Daisy explained that sheer chance prevented the fire from spreading to her home. “Because I have dogs, I don’t keep my windows very open. If I had this tendency of keeping my windows open, the spark would have come onto my curtains and my house also would have been on fire.”
The actor also spoke about the delayed arrival of emergency services. “Considering it was office hours, and we do not have a dedicated lane for ambulances and fire engines, it took them about 30–35 minutes to reach.”
Daisy Shah talks about the rules being biased
Visibly disturbed by the incident, Daisy questioned the lack of strict regulations. “I think there should be some law pertaining to this. Such risk-taking measures, especially with firecrackers, should not be allowed,” she said. “We have laws for all the wrong things. The law only applies when people in power benefit, not the common man.”
Calling firecrackers a menace, she added, “Our country’s AQI has already gotten so bad. We don’t need crackers. There is no proper place dedicated to burst crackers. Abroad, they have specific spaces. We don’t have such measures here.”
Clarifying her stance, Daisy stressed, “I am raising a question against the system, not against one political party. Each and every party should be held accountable.”
Despite the scare, the actor expressed relief. “Luckily, there is no human casualty,” she said, reiterating how narrowly disaster was avoided.
