Television actor Srishti Singh, who will be seen playing Dr Vani in Sony SAB’s upcoming medical drama Hui Gumm Yaadein – Ek Doctor, Do Zindagiyaan, recently opened up about her role, the show’s unique premise and her journey as an actor so far exclusively with mid-day.

Srishti Singh talks about her character

Talking about her character, Srishti shared, “So, my character is Vani. Vani is a doctor, it’s a medical drama but it’s not like the typical medical drama.” She explained that the story revolves around Dr Dev, a respected doctor who loses his memory following a brain injury, and how life changes after that major incident. “Basically, it’s a story about a doctor who loses his memory because of a brain injury,” she said.

Elaborating on Dr Vani’s personality, Srishti added, “Vani works under Dr Dev. She is very mature, very emotionally intelligent and progressive.” She further revealed that Vani deeply admires Dr Dev, and the show focuses on the evolving bond between them. “The story is about the bonding between Dr Vani and Dr Dev, how his life takes a turn after he loses his memory, how their bond is created and what their previous story was,” she explained.

Srishti emphasised that while the show falls under the medical drama genre, it offers something different. “This story is actually focused on a doctor’s life and not just the patient’s life. Doctors also have a life. They also have problems and how they deal with things,” she said, adding that this perspective is what attracted her to the project.

On her acting journey

Reflecting on her acting journey over the past four years, Srishti said, “I’ve done a lot of different kinds of roles and Dr Vani is very different from all my other characters.” She expressed gratitude for getting varied opportunities early in her career. “My first show was different, second was different, third was different, and this is also very different,” she shared, smiling as she added, “At some point, I wanted to be a doctor, and now I’m playing one.”

Speaking about her approach to choosing roles, Srishti stated, “The message is the most important thing for me. If a show gives a message and has a positive impact on society, it really matters.”

On working with Iqbal Khan, who plays Dr Dev, she said, “We’ve just met twice or thrice and haven’t started shooting yet, but we had a very good mock shoot. It was very comfortable working with him.” She concluded by saying, “He’s a very senior and experienced artist, and I’m really happy to get a chance to work with him.”

With its emotional core and human approach to medicine, Hui Gumm Yaadein promises to offer audiences a refreshing take on the medical drama genre.
