Anupamaa's Rupali Ganguly reveals there is no comparison between Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and her show, she even shared that she is grateful to Ektaa Kapoor for her kind words
Rupali Ganguly Smriti Irani
When it was revealed that Ektaa Kapoor's favourite show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, would return to television on its 25th anniversary, fans felt a surge of nostalgia. Watching Smriti Irani reprise her role as Tulsi Virani alongside Amar Upadhyay, Hiten Tejwani, and Gauri Pradhan was reminiscent of a warm hug from childhood. Aside from nostalgia, netizens were eager to see how Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi's revival would compete with Rupali Ganguly's Anupamaa, which is now dominating television. Rupali, also known as Anupamaa, has finally broken her silence on the repeated comparisons.
Rupali reacts to the comparisons
Before Rupali Ganguly, Ektaa Kapoor, and Hiten Tejwani had already responded to netizens putting Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi against Anupamaa. Ektaa said it was 'uncalled for' and went on to label Rupali a star and her show 'number one'. Rupali spoke with Telly Talk India on the ongoing debate and Ektaa's statement. She said, “Ektaa ji ka badhapan hai ki woh itni achi achi baatein kar rahi hai. Yeh sach hi hai. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is nostalgia. Hum sab ke liye badi garv ki baat hai ki woh humare channel pe show wapas aa raha hai. I don’t understand how you can compare Anupamaa with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.”
Here's how Ektaa had reacted
Earlier, Ektaa had mentioned, "Yesterday I was watching some videos of Anupamaa having a problem as Kyunki is coming. I felt that was in such bad taste. She [Rupali] is such a big star. Anupamaa, the show, the creator Rajan… has done what nobody else could do in the last seven years. They will continue to be number 1. They should continue to be number 1."
She further quipped, "We are coming in for our purpose. To tell our story. These unfair comparisons between lead characters and lead shows are so unnecessary and pitting women against each other, pitting content against each other is so uncalled for."
While Anupamaa continues to win hearts, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi has returned to television with a finite episodes this time. In addition to the original ensemble, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi showcases the Virani family's next generation. Rohit Suchanti and Aman Gandhi play Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay's on-screen kids, Angad and Hrithik Virani. Meanwhile, Shagun Sharma plays Mihir and Tulsi's daughter Pari Virani. The first episode of the relaunch aired on television yesterday night. What did you think about it?
