History
Built in 1815 during the British East India Company’s rule, St. George’s Cathedral stands as one of Chennai’s most enduring symbols of colonial architecture and faith. Designed by engineer Sir J.L. Caldwell, the cathedral once served as the spiritual heart of the Anglican community in South India and continues to be an important place of worship to this day.
