Lego games are usually a lot of fun to play they have good storylines, jokes, puzzles and action sequences. There is no real blood and gore so it is also ideal for kids. But the latest, Lego Marvel&rsquo;s Avengers seems like a misstep in the otherwise (mostly) solid history of Lego themed games.

The voice over is merely taken the audio from the movies and just overlaid it on the game. And, it is not well executed. It also means the story doesn&rsquo;t stray from the movie, speaking of which the game focuses only on the movie franchise, no comic book references and no minimal Lego humour. It also means there are no other playable characters other than the ones in the movies. No Guardians of the Galaxy characters either. However, DLCs add storylines for Ant-Man and a few other characters giving you the opportunity to have their stories played out.

The storyline is also somewhat haphazard as it keeps switching between the first and the second movie and doesn&rsquo;t move in a linear fashion. It is a bit annoying.

Lego Marvel&rsquo;s Avengers takes approximately eight hours to complete. However, there isn&rsquo;t much change in the way the game works or the focus. There is lots of action, adventure and puzzles. The puzzles are mostly easy (remember this is a game for kids) and even the most challenging ones can be solved by process of elimination. There are some new combo moves where you can team up with other characters, which spices things a little, adding some much needed visual flair to the action parts of the game.

What&rsquo;s done well in Lego Marvel's Avengers are the large explorable open world. There are lots of quests, races and collectibles to be amassed. It adds some value to an otherwise dull game.
This game only makes sense if you haven&rsquo;t watched the Avengers movie, or if you are a super fan of both, the Lego games and The Avengers movies.
