On a trip to the US, celebrity food writer and chef Karen Anand and her husband Yadu Sankalia chanced upon an urban Farmer’s Market in Brooklyn, which celebrated wholesome gourmet foods and products sourced locally. That’s when the duo introduced Pune Farmer’s Market in 2012 and is hosting Mumbai Farmer's Market today at the Westin Mumbai Garden City in Goregaon for the first time in the city.

“It is an exhibition of local restaurants and natural product companies such as organic teas and coffees and clothes to come and display their wares,” says Anand, whose team has curated the line-up based on different cuisines, seasonal preferences and gourmet experiences.
Out of curiosity, we ask her to define gourmet, a term loosely used in the recent times. “A gourmet dish is anything that has been prepared with care and is unique in its technique and presentation,” adds Anand, who adds that there will be six wineries, including Sula, York and Myrah participating at the event. “We want people to come and taste the food and drinks, decide what they want to buy. We have also introduced a kids cookery workshop. We have also invited homemakers and bakers to put up their offerings at a minimal cost. The 40 exhibitors include restaurants such as Punjab Grill, Jam Jar Diner and Prego, she says.
