Being a bartender might seem like a cool job, but is it a smart choice when it comes to picking it as a career? Find out if you have what it takes to make it in the world of mixology by attending a workshop at Flairology India this weekend.
The session will be conducted by mixologist Varun Sudhakar, who will talk to attendees about the scope of bartending as a career in India.

"There is a list of three boxes you need to tick before going for it. The first is your personality. You can't be shy &mdash; people will take you for granted. You also need to know how to communicate with guests," shares Sudhakar, who has won bartending titles such as Best Bartender &ndash; India, and Diageo World Class, 2013-14. The next two items are knowledge and skill set, without which you will only make it so far. He will also be speaking about the importance of social media and how you can use it to ensure your work is noticed by people.
Sudhakar, who is associated with the Pizza Express chain, shares that although the scenario seems to be changing slowly, bartending is still not considered by many as a glamorous career.
"When someone says they're a chef, they're given a lot of respect. That doesn't happen with us, so you need to be prepared to deal with that," he says. He also feels there aren't enough women bartenders entering the profession. "Alcohol has a bad reputation, which is why both genders face resistance when it comes to taking bartending up as a career. For women, however, it's worse. That said, I know a few women bartenders who are all fantastic at what they do," he signs off.
