Krispy Kreme&nbsp; Food:&nbsp;Mixed bag Service:&nbsp;Quick Ambiance:&nbsp;Fast food style
There was a time when we would buy a chocolate-covered doughnut at a cake store chain, with just '20 in our pocket. Then, Mad Over Donuts (MOD) arrived, and had us hooked on to their chocolate-filled circular wonders. Kids today have world-famous options, thanks to two American chains making a sweet entry. One of them that opened shop last week was Krispy Kreme (with MOD as its neighbour!).

At 11.30 pm, the place was abuzz with youngsters, and we had to wait for a table. We hoped the hype and the wait would pay off. The service was friendly, as they informed patrons about crazy offers like pay for nine and get 24 servings (yes!). A shiny start to our party was with Glazed Cinnamon (Rs 69, for each option, excluding taxes). The cinnamon-dusted doughnut that was coated with sugar gave us a heady idea of what to expect &mdash; doughnuts light as fluffy bunnies. The texture and taste of these doughnuts were top-class as we negotiated every option from our picks. Chocolate Dream Cake is the poison for chocolate lovers with its chocolate filling and chocolate coating (we missed it being hot though). Chocolate Iced Custard Filled was equally good. The Mango and Cookie Krunch was too sweet for our liking. Powdered Strawberry Filled was delish too.
The beverages section didn&rsquo;t match up to the doughnuts though. Silky Chocolate Shake (Rs 160) was a below average chocolate shake while the Espresso Oreo Shake (Rs 160) packed in a nice coffee punch but the crunch of the biscuit was missing. Thankfully, Passion Fruit Chiller (Rs 160) was a good drink for the parched soul. While Krispy Kreme costs more than its neighbour, it aces in creating dreamy, float-ey doughnuts (albeit one super sweet flavour), which we would surely come back for.
