Melbourne: Tasmanian distillery Sullivan&rsquo;s Cove&rsquo;s French Oak Cask variety was named the world&rsquo;s best single malt whisky at the World Whiskies Award held this week in London.

The alcohol was judged the global winner from a high-quality pool of single malt entries, including Scotland&rsquo;s Bunnahabain, Aberfeldy, Glenkinchie and Glenlivet distilleries and Japan&rsquo;s Yamazaki. According to judges, French Oak Cask entry was &ldquo;light, peppery and intriguing&rdquo;, asserting that it was a match made in heaven with a smooth buttery feel.&nbsp;
