A man was arrested in Rabale area of Navi Mumbai for allegedly raping a woman in a lodge after spiking her drink, a police official said on Monday, reported the PTI.

The suspect was identified as Fardin Samir Khan (24), a resident of Mumbra in Thane district of Maharashtra, the police official said.


He had allegedly taken the woman to a lodge in Mhape MIDC area on May 25 after blackmailing her with some objectionable photographs, he added, according to the PTI.



"The crime took place between 10:30 am and 4 pm that day as per our probe. Khan was held on Sunday under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rape and other offences," the official said, news agency reported.

Further investigations were underway, police said.

Uttar Pradesh: 26-year-old man arrested for kidnapping, raping minor girl

Meanwhile, a 26-year-old man was arrested Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly kidnapping and raping a 15-year-old girl, the police said on Monday, according to the PTI.

The suspect has been identified as Prem Kumar Ram, who lived in the same village as the minor in Ballia district.

According to the police, the accused allegedly kidnapped the victim on May 25 and took her to Satna in Madhya Pradesh, the police said.

The police began investigating the matter and following a complaint filed by the girl's mother, a case was registered against Prem under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), the PTI reported.

The girl's father allegedly rescued her in Satna three days ago.

During interrogation, the girl revealed that Prem had allegedly kidnapped and raped her, the police said.

Prem was arrested near his residence on Monday and sent to jail, Ballia Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh said, the news agency reported.

In an another incident in UP's Hatras, the police arrested a man for allegedly raping a 65-year-old woman at her home, officials said on Sunday.

The victim's son filed a complaint, stating that his mother was sleeping in her room around 11:30 am on Friday when the accused who lives in the neighbourhood entered the house and raped her.

The woman's screams alerted neighbours, but the accused fled before they could apprehend him, the complainant said.

Upon receiving the complaint, police registered a case and sent the victim for a medical examination.

Circle Officer (CO) Yogendra Krishna Narayan said, "The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway."
