BJP-Shiv Sena alliance highlights 100-day performance in BMC; claims Rs 1,000 crore savings

The BJPShiv Sena alliance on Thursday presented a 100day performance report on its administration in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC highlighting measures aimed at increasing transparency digitising civic systems cancelling highvalue tenders and improving infrastructure and public services across MumbaiThe BJP claimed that several decisions taken over the past three months had helped curb irregularities in civic administration and reduce expenditure on projects that were either under review or considered financially unviableBJP Highlights Transparency and Procurement ReformsAccording to the BJP one of the key administrative changes during the period was the discontinuation of the longstanding ldquounderstanding systemrdquo in the BMC Standing Committee which the party alleged had enabled informal arrangements in civic decisionmaking for several yearsThe BJP also said the civic administration had initiated procurement through the Government eMarketplace GeM portal for school supplies medicines and hospital equipment to improve transparency and standardise purchasing proceduresThe party further stated that an online bed availability system had been introduced in municipal hospitals to improve access to healthcare information for residentsBJP Says HighValue Tenders Were CancelledThe BJP claimed that tenders worth more than Rs 1000 crore had been cancelled in an effort to prevent unnecessary expenditure and reassess project costsThese included the cancellation of the proposed Rs 490 crore Byculla Zoo expansion tender a Rs 385 crore tender related to footpath railings and roadmarking tenders worth Rs 150 croreThe party also claimed that revised planning in the GargaiPinjal water supply project resulted in estimated savings of Rs 270 croreInfrastructure and Waste Management InitiativesThe BJP said nearly 1900 km of roadwork had been completed under Mumbairsquos ongoing road concretisation programme with a target of achieving 93 per cent concretisation by 2027According to the party a scientific plan was being prepared in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay to address waterlogging in vulnerable areas of the cityThe BJP also highlighted the launch of the ldquoMumbai Clean Leaguerdquo initiative as part of the civic bodyrsquos cleanliness campaign It added that GPS tracking systems and stricter monitoring mechanisms had been introduced for construction and demolition CampD waste transportation and disposalDigital Governance and Civic AdministrationThe BJP stated that a QR codebased registration system had been introduced for hawkers to streamline identification and regulation processesThe party further claimed that a Special Investigation Team SIT inquiry into birth and death registrations had exposed nearly 87000 fake birth registrationsThe civic administration is also developing a Corporate Social Responsibility CSR portal to facilitate partnerships for social development projects according to the BJPFocus on Education and Social WelfareIn the education sector the BJP said budgetary allocations had been made for artificial intelligence and robotics laboratories in municipal schools The party added that provisions had also been introduced to promote education based on the constitutional values of Dr BR AmbedkarThe BJP further said a free HPV vaccination campaign for 14yearold girls had been launched through the municipal health systemThe report also mentioned budgetary provisions for 27 underground parking facilities across Mumbai and proposed reforms to the ldquoDattak Vasti Schemerdquo for slum areasAdditionally the BJP stated that a request for two Asiatic lions for the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Vanaspati Udyan and Zoo had been approvedThe party also said special provisions had been made to promote the Marathi language internationally as part of its cultural outreach initiatives
