The breakthrough percentage of people getting COVID-19 after both the doses of the vaccine is less than 0.60 per cent, a data analysis done by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has found. A breakthrough infection refers to cases when the virus has been able to break through the defences created by the vaccine. Health experts say that no vaccine offers 100 per cent protection from any disease. That means that there are breakthrough cases for all kinds of vaccines — including COVID-19.

According to them, nearly 24,000 people in the city have shown COVID symptoms after taking the first and second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The BMC had collated data of 41.75 lakh people, of which so far 9,001 have been infected after taking the second dose, which means there is a very little percentage of people who are infected.
