Following an almost nil response to the car-on-train service, the Konkan Railway on Tuesday evening announced that they had decided to add a halt at Nandgaon Road station in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra to facilitate Ganapati devotees traffic.
As first reported by Mid-Day, the Konkan Railway announced the launch of services to ferry private cars by train during this Ganeshotsav between Mumbai and Goa. It will be the first time in India that such a service is being introduced.

Mid-Day later reported that the service will begin from August 23 between Kolad (Maharashtra) and Verna (Goa), ferrying cars by train, with a maximum of three people per car allowed to travel in the attached 3 AC coach, paying the prescribed fare. Freight charges per car will be Rs 7,875 in each direction, with capacity for 40 cars per train.

However, so far, the proposed service has received only a single booking, with commuters requesting a halt in the Konkan region itself. Following this feedback, the Konkan Railway has decided to add a stop at Nandgaon Road station.
Time Table

"With this addition, passengers can now load and unload their cars at Nandgaon Road, making the journey more flexible and user-friendly for car owners. The stop has been introduced in response to public demand and feedback from passengers. Registration for booking of cars for the Ro-Ro Car Transportation Service is extended till 5 p.m. on August 18,” an official spokesperson said.
