To bring relief to the passengers for the upcoming festive season, the Central Railway’s Mumbai Division has rolled out a series of passenger-friendly upgrades. While issuing the statement, Central Railway, across its network between January and August 2025, reaffirmed their commitment to safety, comfort, and convenience.

While issuing the release, the Mumbai Division of the Central Railway gave out the detailed information of the work that has been carried out during the period starting from January 2025 and ending in August 2025.

Assuring Passenger Comfort

To ease movement across busy stations, the Mumbai Division of the Central Railways stated that 10 new escalators were installed at Karjat, Tilak Nagar, Mankhurd, Vikhroli, and Vangani stations. Moreover, nine lifts were commissioned at Govandi, Khardi, Sewri, Shelu, and Chunabhatti stations.

While hailing the infrastructural development across Mumbai Railways, the Central Railways also installed a 6-metre-wide foot overbridge (FOB) at Govandi. Major upgrades done by the Central Railway also included the replacement of old FOB connectors at CSMT and the reconstruction of the Masjid station staircase.

Platform and train indicators

Central Railways also asserted that an improved ticketing and train tracking system has always been the priority of the authorities. To make sure that commuters do not have to go through the hassle of standing in long queues for the ticket or waiting for the train, the Central Railway installed new train and platform indicators at several suburban stations, including Ghansoli, Rabale, Airoli, Vashi, Belapur, Kharkopar, Bamandongri, and Khandeshwar.

While addressing the amenities installed and upgraded across the Mumbai Division, the Central Railways also informed that:

  • New AVD indicators have been installed at Ulhasnagar, Neral and Vangani stations.
  • 2 AVD indicators have been installed at CSMT Platform 15/16.

Coach Guidance Indicators

  • 26 new coach guidance indicators (13 on each platform) have been installed at CSMT as part of the Platform 12/13 extension work.

Arrival/Departure Indicators

  • Two new 5-line mail/express arrival/departure indicators have been installed, 1 each at the CSMT Platform 14/15 entry and at the PRS hall of Dadar station.
  • 2 new line Mail/exp arrival/departure indicators have been installed at the Panvel booking office entrance.

Public Announcement System

  • All old PA system speakers at Ulhasnagar were replaced with new ones.
  • Old PA systems at Vidyavihar & Titwala replaced with new ones.

Accessibility for Divyangjan

To support differently abled commuters, the division has installed 170 buzzers on the Main and Harbour lines. These specially designed devices assist visually impaired passengers in locating earmarked spaces at stations.

Passenger Ticketing

Modernisation of ticketing services saw the installation of 228 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) across 75 stations, helping reduce queues and providing faster ticketing solutions.

Central Railway emphasised that these initiatives are part of its ongoing vision to create a safe, accessible, and passenger-friendly railway network, leveraging technology and infrastructure improvements to deliver seamless travel experiences.
