A violent clash between two groups of vendors in Ganpat Patil Nagar, Dahisar West, resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left two others seriously injured on Sunday evening. The incident, which occurred around 5 pm, is believed to have stemmed from a long-standing fued between the Gupta and Shaikh families, both residents of Gully No. 14.

According to officials from MHB Colony police station, the altercation escalated quickly after an argument broke out between Amit Shaikh, a tailor who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, and Ramnaval Gupta, a fruit and coconut seller. Both men called their sons for support, leading to a violent fight involving sharp weapons such as knives and koytas.

A police officer confirmed, “Around ten individuals were involved in the clash. The fight was brutal and turned deadly in just minutes.” Hasan Shaikh, son of the deceased Amit Shaikh, was apprehended by the police but was found without any injuries.

Investigations have revealed that tensions between the two families date back to 2022, when the first recorded altercation took place. In 2023, cross FIRs were filed at MHB Colony police station. The root of the feud reportedly lies in the Shaikh family’s belief that a Gupta family member was responsible for the death of one of their relatives, who had suffered a heart attack.

Senior officers from Zone 11 and a Crime Branch team visited Shatabdi Hospital to conduct a panchnama. The MHB Colony police are investigating the matter, and FIR registration was underway at the time of going to press.
