Eight more people tested positive for the Omicron variant in the state taking the total to 28 cases on Tuesday. As per the state health department bulletin, all the eight patients are from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), and seven of them are from Mumbai and one from Vasai-Virar. Mumbai’s Omicron variant positive cases now stand at 12, said the report. “All the eight patients are in the age group 24-41 years. Their samples were taken in the first week of December. Three of them are women,” said a state health official.

While three of these patients are asymptomatic, others had mild symptoms. As per the state health report, all these cases did not have international travel history. “While one of them had travelled to Bangalore, the other had to Delhi. Out of the 7 patients in Mumbai, one is in hospital and 6 are at home in isolation. Their close contacts are being tracked,” said the state health official. Of the eight, 7 have been vaccinated and one has not been vaccinated. The six patients in home isolation were working with a person who had tested positive for Omicron and had international travel history.
