Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde unfurled the national flag at the District Administration Office in Thane to mark India’s 79th Independence Day. Present at the ceremony, Shinde reflected on the struggles and sacrifices that led to India’s freedom, expressing deep patriotic sentiment in his address.

He also emphasised Maharashtra’s significant financial role in helping India become the world’s fourth-largest economy. Referring to Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attacks in Jammu & Kashmir, Shinde said Pakistan had attempted to wipe away the ‘Sindoor’ from Indian women’s foreheads.

At midnight, Shinde hoisted the flag at the Shiv Sena office in Thane. Continuing a tradition started by late Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe, the event took place at the central Shiv Sena branch grounds, where the national flag was honoured and participants greeted in celebration.

Shinde added that through Operation Sindoor, India had dealt a decisive blow to Pakistan and terrorism. Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, he stressed the need for strong national resolve and commended his anti-terrorism efforts.

Earlier in Mumbai, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hoisted the tricolour at Mantralaya. After the ceremony at Nariman Point, Fadnavis addressed the public and paid tributes to freedom fighters, martyrs, and soldiers guarding the nation’s borders, according to PTI.

Highlighting the country’s military strength, Fadnavis said, “Our security forces showed the world the country’s prowess during Operation Sindoor by destroying terrorist and military targets in Pakistan. The world came to know what New India is.”

Both Shinde and Fadnavis underscored Maharashtra’s role in India’s economic growth. Fadnavis reiterated, “Maharashtra is a prominent participant in the country’s unstoppable growth story,” PTI reported.
