Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator from Koldongari in Andheri East, Abhijit Samant, on Monday alleged that Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) begins planned works on the eve of Hindu festivals, and the community faces difficulties during its celebrations.

In a letter to Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Samant said that the Mumbai Metro work planned in the area required rerouting of some water pipes, which is scheduled on Tuesday, January 20, and Wednesday, January 21. He said that often when such works are undertaken, water supply is usually interrupted for two days.

As Maghi Ganesh Jayanti is on Thursday, January 22, Samant has urged BMC to reschedule the work so that the residents are not inconvenienced by the interruption of water supply in the K-East Ward (Andheri East) and elsewhere on the eve of the festival.

Samant's wife Anjali won BMC Election 2026 from his previous ward, 84.
